- His first bands were mainly semi-pro jazz rock bands, and he played in these right into the mid 1980’s. His first major break came in 1985 when he auditioned and became part of Uli Jon Roth’s Band (ex-Scorpions). After the World Tour John Young spent his time doing studio and session work with artists as diverse as Steeleye Span and Bon Jovi. Since that time his career has seen many highs and a few lows. One of his biggest regrets was that the band he formed in with Jon Camp (Renaissance) failed to achieve the success it undoubtedly should have done. A band born for great things and signed to Warner Bros failed to produce anything material before the project was disbanded. John went on to play with the MTV band in London and during this time he met a musician called John Wetton who asked him to join Asia for two European tours. Shortly after that he joined Paul Rodgers and Kenney Jones in a very short lived band called The Law. They played one show at the Bowl in Milton Keynes with Bryan Adams and ZZ Top, but that was as far as it went. John Young joined Bonnie Tyler about 15 years ago and has since worked with her all over the world[citation needed]. Unfortunately they rarely play in the UK, but are very popular through out Europe. In 2001 John joined The Scorpions for a world tour of their CD Acoustica[citation needed]. Over the years John Young has also played with some notable people from the world of progressive rock. 2001 saw him co-writing the Fish album Fellini Days with John Wesley and also appearing on the resulting live album Fellini Nights. John Young has also worked as part of the re-generated Greenslade appearing on the albums Large Afternoon and also the Live 2001. In 2002 John formed his own band and released albums "Life Underground" and "Significance". The John Young Band still continues to play and has a fairly fluid line-up depending on the availability of its various members, all of whom are accomplished and acclaimed musicians in their own right. As we enter 2008 John continues to work with many artists both old and new including recently working with Jon Anderson Yes. The first product of that union has seen Jon Anderson touring Europe and including the song Sooner (than later). This was a track co-penned with John Young and although at an early stage shows promise for future material. In addition he continues to work as part of Bonnie Tylers band with whom he recently played an outdoor festival on New Years Eve to 15,000 people. Admission is free! - Brian Jarvis began creating music during a time when acoustic guitars ruled “pop radio”. The airways were filled with the music of artists such as Dave Matthews, David Gray and Guster, and by listening to their songs, Brian fell in love with the sound of acoustic guitar. It became his instrument of choice, and an integral part of his song writing. In his own words, describing the appeal of the instrument, Brian says, “There is no where to run and hide while playing an acoustic guitar; it flaunts your successes and advertises your mistakes.” Relying on his keen ear for melodies, and his strong sense of rhythm, Brian uses his life experiences to create music that is edgier than the traditional singer/songwriter fare. He expresses his emotions with bright, catchy melodies which blend nicely with pop hooks, and intricate guitar riffs and arrangements. “I write songs that are meant for a full band, but that don’t lose their appeal when done with just an acoustic [guitar]. I want to create songs that people can sing back after one listen, but it is equally important to me that my music is palatable without sacrificing any musical integrity.” Brian was the main songwriter in a band named Verona in 2000. The band had some success, sharing bills with artists such as John Entwistle of the Who, The Samples, and Virgin Recording artists Renata. But success was not enough to keep Verona alive, and after several band members came and went, Verona disappeared. The break up of the band discouraged Brian, and his passion for pursuing a music career wavered. He had worked hard for the success that had been achieved, and the idea of moving forward as a solo artist was daunting. In 2006 the Brian Jarvis Band was born. Dan Prindle of the regional band Rane signed on as bass and cello player. Long time friend Bryan Kelly (Verona, Rane, Moller) agreed to bring his unique sound to the drums of BJB. Brian also sought the help of up and coming singer/songwriter Anna Brewer, and lead guitarist Brian Moroney. Together, the five would prove to be an impressive team. In 2006 Brian Jarvis shared bills with many renowned artists including Chad Perrone, The Alternate Routes and The Samples. Throughout his career, Brian has also played with such notable artists as Stephen Kellogg, Ari Hest, and Chris Robinson. Admission is free! Tips for the musicians are encouraged. - Gretchen Witt grew up aahwl-sweet-n-peachy in the nice countryside of Ohio before moving at age 18 to the barbarous streets of New York City where she soon thereafter developed culture shock. It’s been a great shock. She graduated from N.Y.U.’s Tisch School of the Arts, an education during which she scribbled lots of rhymes (where she should’ve scribbled exam notes) on the corners of her classroom notebooks. She has studied classical piano & voice for years, has recently taken up the guitar, and has sung under her breath (to the annoyance of nearby others) all of her life. No one has yet, since this joyous departure into song-writing, been able to pull her away from the strings, the keys, or lyric-inspiring pencil set. The lyrics of each song have been widely agreed upon as the cornerstone of her work. Her vocal style is frequently compared to that of Alison Krauss, Neko Case, Patty Griffin, Norah Jones and Natalie Merchant, however the music remains firmly unique. Gretchen was spotlighted in the recent film Idolette, a documentary profiling the lives of female singer/songwriters. Her music has also been featured on a variety of radio stations. Her live shows occur regularly in New York City at venues such as The Living Room, Makor, Pianos, The Bitter End, The Knitting Factory, and The Cutting Room. She also has played well-known national festivals such as the NEMO Festival in Boston, MA (her showcase was held at Club Passim) and The Dewey Beach Americana Festival in Dewey Beach, Delaware. Recently, she was selected as a New Folk Finalist in The Kerrville Folk Festival (Kerrville, TX) as well as a Troubadour in the 2006 Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s Troubadour Competition (Telluride, CO). Gretchen is the recipient of two Honorable Mentions (for songs "Consequence" and "Soft Spot") from the 2006 MidAtlantic Song Contest. - You see, it started like this... Two brothers, born and raised in a small western Massachusetts mill town... Dominic and Walter Kutylowski have always had music as part of their lives... Their Grandfather played accordian, and that’s how Walter got started... Soon enough, he began picking up more, on piano and organ and guitar and bass... playing in country and rock bands through the years... And then he settled down, got married, started a family... But music has never been too far away... Dominic picked up a few chords from his brother and taught himself how to play guitar... Influenced by the "singer-songwriters" he heard growing up, he began writing songs and singing them in coffeehouses and open mics... They always got together to play, trading and sharing songs they’ve written... A few years ago, the Kutylowski brothers decided to put those songs on tape... a demo was recorded, and FatHands was born... the joining of two musical journeys that started on two different roads... - With a music career spanning forty years, Bob Martin is an acclaimed songwriter and captivating live performer. Born in Lowell, MA, he drew inspiration from hometown idol Jack Kerouac at an early age. Writing poetry that eventually turned to song, Martin became a regular on the east coast folk circuit in 1969. He was "discovered" at Gerde’s Folk City in NYC - a club made famous by Bob Dylan’s early gigs. In 1972 Bob Martin worked closely with Chet Atkins to record his first album Midwest Farm Disaster for RCA in Nashville. A newly mastered cd reissue of Midwest Farm Disaster was released on Riversong Records in fall 2007. In 1974, he dropped out of the mainstream and moved to a mountain home in WV. He continued to write music and pursued his muse through various artistic endeavors. In 1982, he recorded his second album, Last Chance Rider for June Appal Records. The record was recognized as one of the top three folk albums in the country by the National Association of Independent Record Distributors. He released his third album in 1997, The River Turns the Wheel on his own label Riversong Records. This is Bob Martin’s most commercially successful album to date; and music critics around the country took notice. The album reached number sixteen on the Gavin Americana chart and was chosen one of the top ten albums in 1997 by Brad Kava of The San Jose Mercury News. Dave Perry of The Lowell Sun chose it as the best folk album of 1997 and Tom Flannery of The Electric City News also picked it as the best release of that year. He toured nationally and opened for Merle Haggard in 1999. Next To Nothin’ was released in 2000 to more rave critical reviews and extensive airplay on folk, country and Americana radio programs around the country. - Radio personality John Platt, of WFUV FM in New York City aptly described Brooklyn based singer-songwriter Dave Murphy as “the real deal.” During an on-air interview Platt asked Murphy; “being from the northeast, how is it that your music has such a feel of the American heartland?” Murphy paused…and answered simply “well John… it’s because I really like dairy products.” Clearly, Murphy does not take himself too seriously and this trait alone sets him apart from the glut of singer-songwriters out there. Over the last several years Murphy has shared the stage with Suzanne Vega, Steve Forbert, Slaid Cleaves, Alejandro Escovedo, Christine Lavin, Lucy Kaplansky, Mike Doughty, Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Vic Chesnutt, Ray Wylie Hubbard, Christine Lavin and more. - Celebrate the 100th Anniversary of building the Trolley Bridge which is now the world famous Bridge of Flowers. Trolley No. 10 which was the first trolley of the Shelburne Falls and Colrain Street Railway is completely restored and running under wire at the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum in the Buckland Rail yard just up Depot Street from the Bridge. Events during the day include, besides the usual trolley rides and hand pump car experience, rides in the caboose being restored, pump car time trials, a ridable 15 inch gage model train, and rides on a "speeder". At 1:30 p.m. there will be a guided tour of the site of the New Haven's 550 foot bridge across the South River in Conway and
the remains of the power dam and station which powered the Conway Street Railway. The museum has many interesting photos of Shelburne Falls during the trolley era and explains why the trolley was so important to the people and commerce of the area.
There also will be a pork barbecue at noon. Tickets are $12, and $10 for Museum members. Museum entrance is free. All day passes for the trolley and pump car rides are $2.50 for adults 13 years and over and $1.25 for children 6 through 12.

- What do you get when you take complex chords, simplistic, yet, thought provoking lyrics, and melodies that will ring in your head for days? You get a good-looking undergrad college student ready to serenade at any given time. Noted for a unique soothing sound, catchy melodies, and unruffled stage presence, Michael Greenberg is beginning to create a pre-game buzz for audiences through out the Northeast. Born into a not-so-musical family, Michael picked up the guitar at the age of three and hasn’t stopped strumming since. Although he may not choose to play more than three covers, dont let that deceive you. As a boy, he could be found standing on the coffee table, mastering every possible classic song ranging from Buddy Holly, to Tom Petty, to the Beatles and Van Morrison (to name a few). At the age of seven, Michael began taking vocal lessons from a local teacher. By the time he was eight, he performed his first show at a local club named Toad’s Place. That night, with support from his family, teacher, his three favorite Beatles songs and a crowd of six hundred, Michael quickly developed a love for performing live. "I couldnt have been more nervous walking on that stage, and my entire family knew it... but once I sang the first line of ’I Saw Her Standing There,’ I felt like I was right on the beach, you know, right at home. I still get nervous performing at that venue. I usually run up and down the set of stairs that lead from the party room to the stage a few times and then I remind myself that everything will be fine after the first note." After performing at middle schools with his first band "The Defenders of Rock and Roll," Michael started performing Dave Matthews covers at local cafes across Connecticut. He soon met his future high school band mate at a local Starbucks. "We shared the same interest in music, so we decided to hang out and jam." Through this friend, he met the other three members of what was soon known to be Bunji. After recording two albums, developing one of the biggest local followings in Connecticut, and having aspirations to pursue the pop-era with the group, Michael became frustrated with the band and the music that was being made. By 2003, and the young age of 16, he began to take the stage as a solo singer/songwriter. There was something different about Michaels solo performances and his audience loved it. His solo acts were comedic, and more intimate than with the band. His songs started to develop a distinctive sound. A sound that was darker, richer and more captivating than his previous songs. - Glenn Roth’s constant companion throughout his life has been his guitar, even at the tender age of seven. Enthralled with the guitar and the amazing sounds which he was able to create with this instrument, he chose to wrap his life around music. Glenn is currently a guitar instructor by vocation, with a roster of private students. In addition, he teaches young guitar hopefuls out of the Branford, CT music store, “A Sound Choice.” For the past five years, Roth has been performing regularly at various venues throughout Connecticut and New York. He began performing as one half of an acoustic duo called Fountain Project, which after two years evolved into a full band by the same name, in which he plays lead electric guitar. Fountain Project has performed at musically respected venues such Toad’s Place in New Haven and CBGB’s in NYC. Having already developed a following and a reputation as a uniquely talented guitarist through his prior performances, Glenn’s solo career has begun full force with regular performances around the New Haven, Connecticut area. Glenn has the consistent ability to grab and hold his listener’s attention with his energetic, original fingerstyle music, which consists of a wide range of styles and influences, often improvisational. Glenn is currently performing as a solo guitarist while continuing to study jazz and fingerstyle guitar. He is heavily influenced by a wide range of artists from Eddie Van Halen and Trey Ananastasio, to Tool and 311. - Ruby James burst onto the music scene as a solo artist in 2006 with the release of her EP Sweet as Sin, immediately captivating critics and crowds, with moxie and sophistication and a kick ass stage show, leaving a swarm of heady fans in her wake. Her sultry yet sweet voice tempted, teased and rocked premiere venues from Central Park in New York City, Hard Rock Live, Austin’s Continental to LA’s Viper Room and The Whiskey. Whether it be on her own or sharing stages with Jackson Browne, Jane Weidlin, Soul Asylum, 7Mary3, War and Fastball, Ruby James is often compared to legendary icons Stevie Nicks, Sheryl Crow and Chrissy Hynde. Humbly aware, she is committed to and succeeding at blazing her own unique trail through modern rock. Desert Rose, the new album from Ruby James, promises the journey will continue with her gutsy brand of sweet grit and sultry style and a timeless return to the roots of music. - Kristin Hoffmann is a singer/songwriter based in New York City. She began playing classical piano at the age of four, and never stopped, picking up opera and guitar as a teenager and going on to study at Juilliard Pre-College. After Juilliard, Kristin attended NYU for a year, and began a long run of playing her own music out at many New York City venues, such as The Living Room, The Knitting Factory, and Joe’s Pub. After a brief signing with Capital Records, Kristin co-produced, engineered, and self released a record entitled, "Divided Heart," and went on to sell over 3000 copies as she continued to build a loyal local following. She discovered the intimate, Caffe Vivaldi, in the West Village where she began playing on a regular basis, honing her skills as a musician and writer. It was there that she was discovered by Interscope Records, and went on to record her latest record, "Real," with notable producer, David Bottrill ( Peter Gabriel, Tool). Following the recording of "Real," Kristin spent time touring with acts such as, The Wallflowers, Tina Dico, Dar Williams, Brandi Carlile, Howie Day, and Ben Lee. Kristin uses her piano as a vehicle for her voice, keeping her instrumentation simple, so the gorgeous melodies and lyrics resonate with the audience. "I hope to stimulate my listeners to go deeper within themselves to places they may be reluctant to go. I’ve come to realize that my greatest challenges have emerged from my mistakes, and that they were really blessings in disguise." Most recently, Kristin has finished writing, producing, and performing her 30th song for "Songs of Love," an organization that matches musicians with ill children to create songs just for them. "Working with ’Songs of Love,’ has been one of the most meaningful ways I could have ever imagined using my musical skills. The joy from each child when they receive their song is un-measurable, and I am so glad that I am able to be a part of their healing process." Kristin is also currently practicing musical healing, her own style which she calls "SOLAUM"(Songs of Light + aum…the eternal resonance of the universe), with individuals and groups and plans to expand this practice over the coming years.
