Race Returns Benefits to Our Community
(12/14/09) Twelve of 20 applicants received mini-grants from the Shelburne Falls Area Business Association’s Bridge of Flowers Road Race Grant Committee. Profits from the race have been returned to the community through grants to:
Ballet Renversé, the Bridge of Flowers Committee, Dial/ Self, the Heath Elementary School Garden Shed Project and school drama program, peer mediators through Sally Rice of Ashfield, the Shelburne Senior Center, the Buckland Historical Society, Mohawk Trail Concerts Inc., the Piti Theatre Company, the Shelburne Free Public Library and The Academy at Charlemont.
The projects chosen “most closely parallel” the criteria and mission of the group, which has a focus on youth and athletics. “The SFABA and the race coordinators are especially appreciative of the Bank of Western Massachusetts, the race’s presenting sponsor,” said Mike McCusker, road race director. “It is very satisfying for all of us when the village of Shelburne Falls comes alive on a race day that is so dependent on much-appreciated volunteers and also realizes benefit to other community projects."
