Technology Consultant Wants Everyone to Use Technology for Fun and Profit

(9/8/09) Daniel Lieberman worked as a manager and software developer in Lieberman's Gallery, a successful family-owned business for many years. "I was building applications for our small business with microcomputers before there were IBM PCs. I was using the Internet before there was a World Wide Web," he says.

Lieberman's Gallery was the world's largest pure wholesale distributor of art prints and posters. Highly innovative in its use of computer technology, Liebermans' was instrumental in the development of online art retailing.  The family sold the business in 2008.

Lieberman next worked for Biztech Solutions, Inc., Freehold, NJ, as a Business Analyst and Project Manager. "I had been managing three developers for the last few years, and had become interested in working in teams. We had a very innovative, productive, and harmonious IT department. My father was kind of a borndportrait.jpg business analyst; I guess I inherited it from him", says Lieberman. The family was originally in the food business, and for fun used to brainstorm about improving the workflow in their poultry processing plant when he was about nine years old! In his time at Biztech, he led and worked on projects for clients including the US Army, banks, insurance companies, and governments.

Now working as a consultant and blogger, Lieberman has become interested in facilitating access to high tech solutions for everybody: "Small businesses, individuals, non-profits, students, teachers, and governments at every level can benefit tremendously by learning to use new technology, especially Web technology. People and organizations are not even scratching the surface when it comes to the kinds of useful, fun, and profitable things they can do with the Internet," he says.

The buzz right now is Social Media. According to Lieberman, Facebook, Twitter and other Social Media platforms are changing how we live - literally at light-speed. "I've been a computer programmer for nearly thirty years and I feel like Rip van Winkle half the time! No wonder everybody's confused about this stuff!" In order to explore the new world of Social Media, Daniel started the Facebook Group "Take Your Eats" this summer. "The idea was to build an online network about local food where people -- producers and consumers -- could meet and interact. It's been sort of a laboratory for me to understand how things work (and sometimes don't work!) in the new online world. It's been a lot of fun and very, very enlightening," he says.

Lieberman now offers analysis and consulting as a freelancer; Project Management is also available on a contract basis. He lives in Shelburne with his partner, Kathy Puckett. He is now a member of the Shelburne Falls Area Business Association Communications Committee, and plans to join the Shelburne Open Space Committee this fall.
