Walker Career Coaching - Helping people find the work they truly want

(11/13/09) Pam Walker’s approach to career counseling is holistic. She works through different phases of a career or job change with her clients, beginning with assisting them in envisioning their ideal life, clarifying the client's dreams, values, skills and interests, then moving on to setting goals, and creating a road map for the job search journey. Walker gives guidance on researching professions, careers and organizations to help each client focus their individual search.

Pam Walker has lived in Shelburne Falls for fifteen years. Originally from Boston, Walker is a graduate of Goucher College in International Relations, and she also earned a M.Ed. from Lesley College in Cambridge.

Walker brings her business background and life experience to career coaching. After a decade of organizational consulting for public, non-profit, private and governmental organizations, she switched her focus to helping individuals in job searching and career transition. Her work as a management coach, trainer, mediator, organizational consultant, and educator gives her a unique perspective on how to guide people in the job search and change process.

Walker employs assessment tools to help clients discover their style, preferences and talents, and identify transferable skills that are sought by employers in different positions and careers. She provides guidance, support, and accountability the whole way. Once the client has a clear focus, she and her client move on to the strategy and nuts and bolts of the job search: editing and writing a targeted resume and cover letters, honing skills in networking, information interviewing, contacting employers, and preparing for interviews. Walker offers perspective and follow up debriefing on interview experiences. "I help my clients stay confident, keep momentum and a positive attitude every step of the way. What they learn they can use for the rest of their lives," she says.

Clients can work with Walker through the entire process for a package fee, or work on any aspect of the job search or career transition process they need help with. “Often clients just need a jump start, or are stymied part way through their effort and need ideas, resources and motivation,” she says.

”My goal is to support clients in finding a match between their dreams and talents and help them find work that is rewarding and aligned with their values and the contribution they want to make to their community,” she says. Walker is available for telephone consults between meetings, and offers evening hours.
