Sports/Recreation

The area is well known for it's sports & recreational activities. There are state parks, accessible private and public land, trails for hiking, biking, snow mobiling, cross country skiiing, etc. Rivers and streams meander between the hills, offering plenty of water activities.

High Ledges

A Popular Hike

Offering unparalleled views to the west, these trails through Audubon-protected woods on Mt. Massamet are a must for photographers and lovers of sunsets. The main trail is well-cleared and suitable for families and casual strolls. There are quite a few narrower more demanding hiking trails off to the sides.

From Route 2 (Mohawk Trail), turn onto Little Mohawk Road in Shelburne, then follow the signs to the Audubon Society High Ledges Sanctuary.

For a map of hiking in Shelburne, stop in to the Shelburne Falls Visitor Information Center and pick up a copy courtesy of the Shelburne Open Space Committee.
