Enduring New England: 125th Anniversary Retrospective of the Paintings of Robert Strong Woodward (1885-1957)
Painting in Buckland and Heath, Woodward entertained such luminaries as the actress Beulah Bondi and poet Robert Frost. George Burns and Gracie Allen, Jack Benny and Oliver Wendell Holmes, Jr. also acquired Woodward's work. He won the Gold Medal of Honor in 1930 at the Boston Tercentenary Exhibit for his painting entitled "New England Drama". Woodward turned to painting after he became permanently paralyzed from the waist down when he accidentally shot himself while cleaning a gun at the age of 21.
This exhibit consists of 60 pieces (oils and chalks) and special Exhibits on Woodward's life and work .
