Financial Discussion Group Formed

(2/2/09) Wondering what to do about the stock market? After several people approached Susan Perkins Stark with that question, she recognized a need to share information.

SFABA Board member and former investment manager Susan Perkins Stark has formed an informal drop-in discussion group to share information about investing and the market. Stark, who has been on Wall Street for nearly thirty years, most recently managed growth-oriented portfolios and a hedged strategy for pension funds, and has a long tenure as a securities analyst specializing in the health care sector.

She admits that she does not have all the answers.  My experience is not with individuals but with big financial institutions. However, several people have told me that they want to learn about the market and investing. So, we are having a discussion group, and I expect to learn from others as well, she said.

Topics for discussion will be based on the needs and interests of the group, she said, and guests with specialized expertise may be invited to talk with the group. Upcoming topics for the bi-weekly meetings include,  How to actually open an account somewhere to start investing, with an on-line demonstration, and  Analyzing a stock.
