Local Theatre Company Presents 'Salmon Falls' Interactive Event
(10/1/09) SFABA member Piti Theatre Company will present an interactive, outdoor theatrical event on October 3, 10 & 17 at 1:30 pm behind the Arms Library in Shelburne Falls. Salmon Falls tells the story of the Deerfield River through storytelling, movement, and song - from glaciers and dinosaurs to scientists and snapping turtles. Children from the audience ages 5 & up are invited to participate as actors following a ten minute "rehearsal" at the start of the show.
(Tickets will not be sold - there is a $7 suggested donation.)
Salmon Falls got it's start last June when Riverfest organizer Polly Bartlett asked Piti Theatre to create a performance for the popular annual event, and Artistic Director Jonathan Mirin was inspired to create a peformance based on Riverfest's 2009 theme: "the past, present and future of the Deerfield River."
Salmon Falls is the company's second environmentally-themed production for family audiences. They have been touring their nature fable Elmer and the Elder Tree to schools and theatres since 2008.
The Piti Theatre Company is led by co-founding Artistic Directors Jonathan Mirin and Godeliève Richard. Mirin is an actor/playwright/director whose work has been produced in New York, regionally and abroad. Richard is a Swiss dancer/choreographer/designer who most recently choreographed All About Alice for New England Youth Theatre in Brattleboro. Shelburne Falls native Jody Massa joined Piti in 2008 as Education Director.
Piti (pronounced "pea-tea") is an ancient Indian (Pali) word which can be translated as joy or rapture. The company's aim is to create joyful, rapturous new work for the stage. The troupe was founded in 2004 and has been nominated twice for an Independent Reviewers of New England Award.
