RiverFest, one of the Top 20 Massachusetts Events according to Yankee Magazine, celebrates the Deerfield River as it flows through the Village of Shelburne Falls.A family-friendly festival with children's theater productions, the world-famous Frog and Flower Parade, live music, dancers, wild birds and animals, all in a beautiful setting enhanced by views of Salmon Falls and the extraordinary multi-hued glacial potholes. 9:30 | Guided hike with Jerry Schoen: Join us to look at several spots along the Chickley River that were heavily damaged by Tropical Storm Irene and are being restored. The walk will give participants a sense of the destructive power of the storm, and how disruptions of this magnitude can be restored, both by natural process and through focused human management activities. Plans are to meet at Berkshire East parking lot at 9:30 AM, and carpool to the Chickley River from there. | Near Hawley |
2pm | Guided hike in the Dubuque State Forest with Polly Bartlett: This will be a short hike using abandoned old roads past cellar holes, a cemetery, mill pond and mill sites. Meet at the State Park and Ride parking lot on Route 2 in East Charlemont to car pool to the starting point.
