From this vantage point you can see the entire village of Shelburne Falls and beyond.
The overlook is approximately 1 mile from the parking area of this Mass Audubon wildlife sanctuary. It’s a moderate walk along an old dirt road through stands of colorful maple, oak, birch, and beech trees.
High Ledges Wildlife Sanctuary
This historic stone fire tower, built in 1909, sits atop Mt. Massamet, elevation 1,594 ft.
As you climb the stairs of the 60 foot tower you have sweeping scenic views in all four directions, including the Berkshires to the west and Vermont’s Green Mountains to the north.
It's a strenuous hike to the tower via either of two 1 ¼ mile trails.

And, no hiking is necessary - just drive up and park in their large lot.
Apex Orchards
From the top of 1420 ft. Pony Mountain you’ll be treated to dramatic views of the Berkshire foothills in all their glory.
Hike a ½ mile trail around the western side of Pony Mountain to the summit.
Or take the lower-elevation D.A.R. Trail through the autumn woods above Chapel Brook to explore old foundations and an historic sheep pasture.
